After the establishment of the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base, in accordance with the early instructions of the CPC Central Committee, in order to develop and strengthen the revolutionary force, it became one of Mao Zedong's urgent tasks to get in touch with local Party organizations as soon as possible, and to find the whereabouts of the Nanchang Uprising Army.

In late April 1928, the remaining troops led by Zhu De and Chen Yi and more than 10000 peasants of the Xiangnan Uprising Army moved to Jinggangshan in succession, joined forces with the troops led by Mao Zedong in Ningganglong City, and then established the Fourth Army of the Workers' and Peasants' Revolutionary Army (later renamed the Fourth Army of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army). Zhu De was the military commander, and Mao Zedong was the party representative and secretary of the military commission.

The successful meeting of Jinggangshan is an event of great historical significance in the history of Chinese revolutionary development. Since then, the center of the Chinese revolution has shifted from the city to the countryside. The establishment of the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base initiated the right path of surrounding the city with rural areas, relying on rural areas to accumulate and develop revolutionary forces, and finally seizing national power.
