According to the Report on the State of the Global Climate in 2023 released by the World Meteorological Organization on March 19, in 2023, global greenhouse gas concentration, surface temperature, ocean heat and acidification, sea level rise, Antarctic sea ice area and glacier ablation and other climate change indicators will set new records.

According to the report, 2023 is the hottest year on record. The global average near surface temperature is 1.45 degrees Celsius (± 0.12 degrees Celsius) higher than the pre industrial level. The past 10 years are the hottest decade on record.

According to the report, the global average sea surface temperature has been hitting record highs since April 2023, with record breaking in July, August and September. At present, the Antarctic sea ice area is a record low, and the maximum sea ice area at the end of winter is 1 million square kilometers less than the previous record low.

The report also said that the data showed that in 2023, the concentration of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide, the three major greenhouse gases, continued to rise from the record level in 2022, of which the concentration of carbon dioxide was 50% higher than the pre industrial level.

WMO Secretary General Celeste Solo said: "WMO is sending a red alert to the world."

According to this report, in 2023, heat waves, floods, droughts, wildfires, etc. will affect the daily lives of millions of people and cause billions of dollars in economic losses.
