Affected by the recent heavy rainfall, the Xijiang River in the Pearl River Basin experienced an obvious flood process. At 15:20 on the 15th, the water level of Wuzhou Hydrological Station, the control station of the middle reaches of the Xijiang River, rose to the warning level, and the No. 1 flood in 2024 occurred in the Xijiang River.

So far, in 2024, there have been seven numbered floods in the Pearl River basin, including two in Beijiang River, three in Hanjiang River, one in Dongjiang River and one in Xijiang River. This is the second time that numbered floods have occurred in all four major rivers in the Pearl River basin in the same year since the numbered floods were counted in 1998.

The Ministry of Water Resources has held a rolling discussion, studied and judged, deployed targeted responses, and actively completed the flood prevention work in the Pearl River Basin. The Pearl River Water Resources Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources made overall arrangements for the reservoir of Tianshengqiao I, Longtan, Guangzhao, Baise and other reservoirs in the upper reaches of the Xijiang River to retain 2.2 billion cubic meters of flood, and spared no effort to reduce the flood control pressure in the lower reaches; The reservoirs such as Datongxia and Changzhou will be carefully dispatched to pre release the reservoir in advance, so as to prepare for flood.

The relevant person in charge of the Ministry of Water Resources said that he would continue to pay close attention to the development and change of rainfall, water and flood conditions in the Pearl River basin, scientifically regulate the flood control project system to intercept and cut the peak, and give full play to the flood control benefits of water conservancy projects. Urge and guide the local government to strengthen the inspection and defense of embankments, do a good job in flood prevention of river related projects under construction, dangerous reservoirs and small and medium-sized reservoirs, pay close attention to the flood prone areas of small and medium-sized rivers and mountain torrents, and do a good job in monitoring, forecasting and early warning.
