15 departments set priorities for the prevention and control of key parasitic diseases in China

By 2030, all hydatidosis endemic counties in China will meet the epidemic control standards; Continue to consolidate the results of malaria elimination and achieve no import of secondary malaria cases... Recently, 15 departments including the National Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention jointly issued the National Implementation Plan for Comprehensive Prevention and Control of Key Parasitic Diseases such as Hydatid Disease (2024-2030), which clarifies the control and elimination goals of key parasitic diseases in China in the next stage.

The Outline of the "Healthy China 2030" Plan proposes that by 2030, "all endemic counties in the country will basically control the prevalence of echinococcosis and other key parasitic diseases".

In order to achieve this goal, the plan proposes specific prevention and control processes for the prevention and control of echinococcosis, malaria, kala azar, soil transmitted nematode disease, and food borne parasitic diseases in China, including that by 2025, more than 50% of echinococcosis endemic counties will meet the epidemic control standards; By 2025, the incidence of leishmaniasis in key endemic counties will be controlled below 1/10000; By 2025 and 2030, the infection rate of liver fluke in key endemic provinces will decrease by 5% and 15% respectively.

How to achieve prevention and control objectives? The plan specifies targeted prevention and control strategies and measures such as strengthening the control of infectious sources, strengthening the management of intermediate hosts, standardizing the treatment and rescue of patients, and continuously promoting the work of monitoring and intervention areas.

The plan also requires that, in combination with the rural revitalization project and the construction of beautiful villages, the working mechanism of department cooperation, joint prevention and control, and group prevention and control should be improved, the production and living environment in the epidemic area should be continuously improved, and the transmission risk of key parasitic diseases should be reduced.
