Exclusive interview! Gao Weiguang: There are human feelings beyond the legal principle

A few days ago, Zhou Yaping acted as the chief screenwriter and director, and Gao Weiguang, Chen Shu, Yuan Wenkang, Lv Xiaolin, Dai Si and other people starred in the environmental protection and judicial teleplay "On the River", which is now being broadcast on CCTV Comprehensive Channel (cctv-1). Based on real cases, the play tells the story of Luo Yuan, an administrative court judge played by Gao Weiguang, who embarked on an environmental judicial reform to uphold justice for the silent landscape, forest, farmland, lake, grass and sand. On March 24, Gao Weiguang was interviewed by reporters.

Reporter: Luo Yuan, your character, is a judge in the play. Does he have a lot of legal rules or legal knowledge to memorize? Does he find it difficult and how can he overcome it?

Gao Weiguang: There are a lot of lines in the play "On the River", which is a professional rule. It's really hard for us to memorize. There will be a character that is easy to pronounce or stumble. It's really because of this reason that we will shoot many times when we actually shoot.

Before startup, the crew arranged us to watch a large number of video materials, including court trial video materials. Because these stories in our play are based on real events, there will be a lot of original case data, which will also be shown to us for reference. Moreover, we also went to the local court, experienced the life of judges, and communicated with judges for several days.

Reporter: Just now, it was said that when we went to experience life and communicate with the judge, what scenes in the play were unbelievable when we read the script, but after we talked with them, we found that something really happened, which made you think it was not easy for environmental judges or staff?

Gao Weiguang: Because these cases are based on real events, we can see that the actual amount of compensation and the degree of pollution (of the environment) are far more shocking than what is finally shown in our play. In the process of shooting, when I think of this, I feel helpless and will take the role in the play to think about whether to develop the economy or protect the environment first. Of course, as Luo Yuan and other judges and environmentalists have explored, it is possible to protect the environment while developing the economy, and the concept of environmental resources protection should be popularized step by step by means of law popularization, education and other means.

Reporter, which case left a deep impression on you? Why?

Gao Weiguang: The golden eagle case, Yuan Xiaoxiao, impressed me deeply. Personally, I can hardly accept that a girl was sentenced to three years' imprisonment at the best age of her life. Although she did violate the criminal law, she did not have subjective malice. At that time, the environmental protection justice was still in the process of gradual improvement, There is no such form of punishment as community correction, so Luo Yuan can only measure his punishment according to the laws and regulations at that time. Until the golden python case appeared later, the judges of the Environmental Resources Tribunal found a new way out, referred to relevant literature and past cases, and began to try to use community correction as a punishment. I have to say that such changes have made the law more warm.

Reporter: Your main rival actors are two judges Geng Nian (Yuan Wenkang) and Lin Hailan (Lv Xiaolin) of Huanziting. Can you introduce the relationship between the three swordsmen of Huanziting? Did anything interesting happen during filming?

Gao Weiguang: In our three person group of the Environmental Resources Tribunal, everyone's character characteristics are quite obvious. For example, Luo Yuan is Luo Bolan, whose ideas are more advanced, innovative, and able to fight bravely. Geng Nian used to work in the civil court and at the grass-roots level. He may be more meticulous in handling things, with a more conciliatory style, and more humane. Lin Hailan is a member of the Criminal Court. She does everything meticulously. She does everything according to the law and wants to find a truth in everything.

The interesting thing about the set is that when I am with Hai Lan (played by Lv Xiaolin), we sometimes speak the Northeast dialect, and then talk about it. When we leave the play, the director says, "You two should take the Northeast dialect.". Sometimes, Liu Tianzuo will be added. When we are together, the atmosphere of the whole group will be brought to the northeast.

Reporter: Is there anything unforgettable and interesting about the cooperation with Mr. Chen Shu this time?

Gao Weiguang: It's very pleasant to shoot with Sister Shu. The interesting thing is that she likes to burn a stick of incense on the spot. The smell of the incense will make people feel comfortable and refreshed. Every time I went to play with her, it was very smooth. In addition, everyone knew that the other party wanted something and could give it, so there was a good understanding.

Reporter: What chance happened to take the role of Luo Yuan? What characters attract you most?

Gao Weiguang: Because I have always wanted to get in touch with realistic dramas, and then "On the River" came to us with the book. At that time, the theme of On the River was very novel. It was the first play about the direction of environmental protection and justice, and it was also in line with a type I wanted to contact at the moment, so it came to play very smoothly. As for Luo Yuan, he is quite plump, and he depicts deeply and comprehensively in all aspects of his career, life and emotion. So as an actor, I am very lucky and eager to be exposed to such roles.

Reporter: Previously, we brought you the classic roles of Emperor Donghua in the pillow book, the partridge whistle in the west of Nuqing, and so on. Do you have any ambition to play Judge Luo Yuan this time? I hope this role can be remembered by the audience?

Gao Weiguang: Thank you for recognizing my two roles. Of course, Luo Yuan also hopes that you can remember my image as a judge, and I also hope that this play can popularize law, or science, or just increase your awareness of environmental and resource protection.

Reporter: The previous roles in ancient costume are impressive. Which one is more difficult, do you think? Which type do you prefer?

Gao Weiguang. What's more, many audiences recognize me through the role of ancient clothes. If I stay in the theme of ancient clothes, I will always be in a comfort zone. People still hope that there will be some challenges and breakthroughs. Playing a realistic theme is an attempt to jump out of the comfort zone.

Reporter: Since the role of "Emperor" and other ancient costume characters were deeply rooted in the hearts of the people before, would you have any concerns and worries before playing "On the River"? What prompted you to go out of the "comfort zone"? At present, from the perspective of the broadcast, everyone is very recognized. Do your friends and family members have any comments on the real theme of your performance this time?

Gao Weiguang: Emperor and Partridge Whistle actually have a great impact on me, because many opportunities behind me are obtained because these two roles are known by everyone, so they are two roles that are very important to my career. Of course, we all hope to make progress and try new things. Another is that when I took over the role of On the River, I thought I could complete the role, and I also believed that I could complete it well, so I went out of my comfort zone and challenged what I wanted to try as an actor with realistic themes, and I would often try works with realistic themes later.

For Luo Yuan, my parents are very supportive, and some relatives and friends are also very supportive. I am very happy to receive such feedback.

Reporter: Luo Yuan was misunderstood and splashed with water in his work. Is this all true? Can you talk about the water splashing play? I have seen the sidelights splashed more than once. What's the feeling of continuing to speak lines after splashing water?

Gao Weiguang: In this play, all cases are based on real events. For example, the plot of splashing water may be designed because some dramatic conflicts are needed, but in real life, the threat faced by judges, or the lack of understanding, is more dangerous than what we present, and the voice of opposition may also be stronger.

The water splashing scene was also splashed several times. Of course, I think the effect is good. When I perform the scene and say the lines, it makes my sense of belief stronger. And I think the words will be more powerful after the water splashing.

Reporter: What roles do you want to try in the future? Are there any special themes you want to play?

Gao Weiguang: In the future, I still want to focus on realistic works, hoping to play different types of roles. It is mainly to be able to play the role of ordinary people.
