Performed Gezi Opera "Beating Golden Bough", two primary school students in Xiamen picked the opera "Little Plum Blossom"

Guo Hanci and Huang Chenying, the fourth grade students of Beifu School in Haicang District, Xiamen, won the title of "Little Plum Blossom" in the amateur group of individual projects with the help of Gezi Opera "Beating Golden Twigs". This is the "Little Plum Blossom" of the school for five consecutive years since 2018.

It is reported that the "Little Plum Blossom Gathering of Chinese Children's Opera" activity was founded in 1997 and sponsored by the Chinese Dramatists Association. It is a national, high standard children's opera art activity, and is known as the "Oscar" of Chinese children's opera. The 27th "Little Plum Blossom Gathering of Chinese Children's Opera" attracted more than 100 young players from all major operas across the country to compete on the same stage, with fierce competition.

The Gezi Opera "Beating the Golden Bough" was directed by Su Yanrong, the award-winning actor of Xiamen Gezi Opera "Plum Blossom Award", and composed by Cai Yirong, the national first-class performer. It took more than three months to create it for students. According to Chen Weishun, a music teacher from Beifu School, Guo Hanci and Huang Chenying, who were both fourth graders, had started to learn drama since the first grade of primary school. They had also performed and participated in many times before, and achieved good results. "Guo Hanci is a bully like player who has a delicate mind and will spend time studying the performance of characters. Huang Chenying is lively and cheerful, and has a more boyish personality. The two children have a high degree of tacit understanding when working together," Chen Weishun told reporters.

The two young actors began to rehearse in early April and participated in the competition in July, during which they experienced many difficulties. Fortunately, the two young actors worked very hard. They spent almost every day on the stage rehearsing. After returning home, they watched the teacher's videos, took notes, and adjusted again.

Beating the Golden Bough is a classic palace play. The costumes, helmets and hats of the actors should be customized. "The school gives great support in terms of funds, but it is far from enough, so it can only invest again by itself," said Chen Weishun. In addition, in terms of music design, according to the range and characteristics of students, miscellaneous tunes, seven character tones, etc. are taken as the main tunes, and some minor tunes are added to make the singing of the whole opera uniform and smooth without losing its charm.
