China Football Association: The new season CSL will implement "two up and two down"

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, April 10 The preparatory group of the Chinese Football Association and the Chinese Football Association announced at the 2023 Chinese Football Association Professional League Pre match Working Conference on April 10 that the new season CSL will implement the promotion and demotion policy of "two promotions and two demotions".

In the 2022 season, the CSL will expand to 18 teams, and the promotion and demotion policy will be "three up and three down". In 2023, the size of the CSL will be reduced to 16 teams, and the promotion and demotion policy will also be adjusted to "the two teams with the last performance in the CSL season will be demoted to the top one in the next season, and the two teams with the best performance in the top one season will be promoted to the top one in the next season".

In terms of foreign aid policy, each team of the CSL can register up to 5 foreign aid players and 4 foreign aid players in each game. Each team can register at most one player from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and at most one non Chinese naturalized player can register as a Chinese player, while Chinese naturalized players can register as a Chinese player.

In the 2023 season, the League A will also implement the promotion and demotion policy of "two promotion and two demotion". Foreign aid will implement the policy of "three promotion and two demotion". Each team will have at least one U21 player (referring to domestic players born outside Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan after January 1, 2002) always present. Each team can register at most one player from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Non Chinese naturalized players are not allowed to register as Chinese players, Chinese naturalized players can register as Chinese players.

In addition, in the new season, the 16 teams in the second league are divided into two and a half regions. The top four teams in each region enter the "Chong Group A", the bottom four enter the "Escape Group", and the last two teams in the "Escape Group" fall into the Champions League next season. Foreign players are not allowed to register in China Second League. At least one U21 player from each team is always present. Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan players are not allowed to register, and naturalized players are not allowed to register.

The 2023 Chinese Super League will be opened at Beijing Workers Stadium on April 15.
