On May 15, in the 2024 "National Low Carbon Day" home event held today, BMW Shenyang production base, which has just welcomed the launch of the 6th domestic BMW, gained a new identity - "2023 Green Low Carbon Public Participation Practice Base" of the Ministry of Ecological Environment. As a result, BMW has become the first automobile enterprise selected as the "base".
The BMW production base in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, is responsible for nearly one third of the global production of BMW brand every year, and has been awarded the title of "National Green Factory" by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for seven consecutive years. Dr. Dai Hexuan, president and CEO of BMW Brilliance Automotive Co., Ltd., said, "It is a great honor for us to be encouraged and recognized at the national level again. We have always insisted on manufacturing every BMW car with green 'intelligence' and providing customers with high-quality 'green' cars, which is a firm commitment of 'home in China'."
As the 6th domestic BMW, the innovative pure electric BMW i5 is the latest example of BMW's promotion of green "smart" manufacturing. This new car paint comes from the production process of "zero tap water consumption" in the painting workshop of Dadong Factory. It will be provided to consumers as an option of personalized car paint from this month, so that the new BMW 5 Series can not only meet the personalized needs of customers, but also save water resources.

From production to logistics, to supply chain, to business operation, BMW has fully integrated the concept of sustainable development with the core of "full chain carbon reduction" and "recycling and sustainability" into all aspects of the Shenyang production base, and has made outstanding achievements in green energy transformation, energy efficiency improvement, resource recycling and ecological protection.
Green energy transformation: At present, BMW Shenyang production base uses purchased renewable energy power for production, and BMW also uses green power in 37 non production sites in China. BMW is promoting enterprises in the whole value chain, including production bases, supply chains, dealers and real estate partners, to achieve green and low-carbon transformation of energy and power consumption.
Energy efficiency improvement: BMW Shenyang production base makes full use of big data, AI and other digital technologies to improve production and operation efficiency. For example, the intelligent energy management system of the base can conduct real-time monitoring on the consumption of four levels of factory, workshop, regional and equipment, as well as five types of energy and resources, such as water, electricity and gas, to help optimize energy efficiency and achieve high-quality and efficient digital production.
Resource recycling: BMW Shenyang production base has formed its own "Mobius Ring" in multiple dimensions such as water resource recycling, waste reduction and classified treatment. At present, the painting workshop of Dadong Factory, which produces the new BMW 5 series, has taken the lead in realizing 100% industrial water recycling, without using tap water at all. In 2022, BMW Brilliance was selected as one of the first "National Industrial Wastewater Recycling Pilot Enterprises" by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
It is both a car factory and an ecological garden: While adhering to green production, BMW Shenyang production base also actively participates in the protection of local ecological environment and biodiversity. For example, the richly vegetated Rita plant area has more than 11000 trees and an ecological garden of 7500 square meters, which has become the habitat of the national second-class protected animal cattle egret in the north; The artificial lake in the plant area uses the treated "circulating water" as the water source, nourishes a pool of koi, and makes the ecological garden a small attraction for employees to take a break and clock in at work.
The continuous improvement of the factory's green "smart" manufacturing level is inseparable from BMW's long-term investment. Just last month, BMW Group announced that it would invest an additional 20 billion yuan in China for large-scale upgrading and technological innovation of Shenyang production base, expecting to welcome the arrival of BMW's "new generation" models with a more efficient, intelligent and green production mode.
