According to Reuters, Michael Shu, managing director of BYD Europe, said at the Future of the Car conference held by the Financial Times on May 9 that the company would consider establishing a second assembly plant in Europe in 2025.

A few days ago, France welcomed BYD to build a factory there. Bruno Le Maire, French Finance Minister, said that if BYD, a Chinese electric car giant, decided to open a factory in France, France would welcome it.

BYD hopes to become the leading electric vehicle manufacturer in Europe by 2030. "We are confident that we will be in the lead by 2030," said Michael Shu.

Last December, BYD said that it would establish an electric vehicle factory in Hungary, becoming the first major Chinese automobile manufacturer with a production base in Europe.

Different from other EU countries, under the leadership of Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Hungary has become an important trade and investment partner of China, and more and more electric vehicle and battery manufacturers have started to build factories in Hungary. In the past five years, Hungary has received about 20 billion euros of investment in electric vehicles, including 7.3 billion euros invested by Ningde Times in the construction of a battery factory in the eastern city of Debrecen.

Since September 2022, BYD has actively laid out the European market, and joined hands with partners from all over the world to rapidly promote its multiple new energy models to 20 European countries, including Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Norway, and Hungary, opening more than 250 stores in total. The second European factory will mark the new version of BYD's European Green Tour. (Gesch Yara)
