On May 20 local time, the British High Court ruled on the extradition appeal case of Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, allowing Assange to appeal his extradition case.

The British High Court announced in March that it had postponed the ruling on the appeal case of Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, who refused to be extradited to the United States. The judge of the British High Court said that he would give the relevant parties in the United States three weeks to guarantee that Assange would not be sentenced to death if convicted. Next, it is expected that Assange will continue to appeal his extradition to the United States.

Assange, 52, founded the WikiLeaks website in 2006. In 2010, "WikiLeaks" exposed a large number of US diplomatic telegrams and US military confidential documents during the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, exposing US military war crimes. One of the videos of the American "Apache" helicopter gunships in Iraq shooting journalists and civilians was widely circulated. Assange was immediately involved in a lawsuit. The United States charged him with 17 counts of espionage and one count of improper use of computers. In 2019, Assange was arrested and sentenced to prison in Britain. Subsequently, the United States requested the extradition of Assange on the ground that "WikiLeaks" released confidential documents related to the United States endangered the lives of others.

In December 2021, the British High Court made a decision to allow the US government to extradite Assange and transfer the case to the local court for follow-up. In April 2022, the Westminster District Court in London issued an extradition order, formally approving the extradition of Assange to the United States. In June 2022, then Home Secretary Patel approved the extradition of Assange to the United States. Assange later appealed to overturn the extradition decision. (Chief reporter Chen Lincong)
