About Kashgar

[Historical overview] Kashgar has a long history. As early as in the Western Han Dynasty, it was Shule (today's Kashi City, Shufu County, Shule County, and Jiashi County), Puli (today's Tashkurgan), Shache, Yinai (today's Yingjisha), Zihe (today's Yecheng), Two Nights (today's south of Shache) and other countries in the thirty-six countries of the Western Regions. In the fourth year of Yuanshou, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty (119 BC), when Zhang Qian, the candidate of Hanbo, arrived at Shule for the Western Regions, it was controlled by the Han Dynasty and officially included in the territory of the Han Dynasty. In the eighth year of Guangxu's reign (1882), the Qing government approved the establishment of Xinjiang Province, and in the following year, Kashgar soldiers were set up to prepare roads. During the period of the Republic of China, it was changed into Kashgar Administrative Region, and the Office of the Chief Executive was set up in Shufu. In the 32nd year of the Republic of China (1943), it was renamed the Third (Kashi) Administrative Region of Xinjiang.
