In 1979, a homeless girl was sent to a welfare home.
Twenty years later, she grew up and made great achievements in her studies. However, she gave up the good job opportunity and returned to the place where she grew up to become a special education teacher, just to protect her younger brothers and sisters.
Returning to the welfare home, she said, "This is my home." Her name is Liao Yun. She is now the director of the special education department of Jiaxing Social Welfare Home, and has been engaged in special education in the welfare home for 18 years. She is a special gardener in the welfare home, who teaches what she has learned to her brother and sister in the welfare home. She said: "I love everyone here, the children here, just like myself."
Stick to love and resolutely choose special education cause
At eight o'clock every morning, Liao Yun will arrive at the Special Education Department of Jiaxing Social Welfare Institute on time to start the day's work. Every day, Liao Yun is recording the children's growth. In most people's eyes, she repeats the monotonous work every day, but for her it is the journey of love in life.
Back in 1979, the homeless Liao Yun was sent to the welfare home in Jiaxing. She was smart and intelligent, and became the focus of the welfare home at that time. "I was the only child who went to school in a regular kindergarten," Liao Yun said. Although the welfare home had its own school at that time, in order to let her receive formal education like ordinary children, aunts still chose to send her to a formal kindergarten, which made Liao Yun grateful.
In this way, Liao Yun grew up slowly under the care of the aunt and teachers in the welfare home. Although she has a special life experience and grew up in a special environment, she still maintains an excellent quality of being proactive, diligent and studious.
Due to eye disease, Liao Yun overcame all kinds of inconveniences and difficulties with diligence, perseverance and hard work, and was admitted to Jiaxing Xiushui Technical Secondary School Preschool Teachers' Major.
At the age of 20, she graduated from a technical secondary school. With gratitude, she gave up the opportunity to teach in an ordinary kindergarten and resolutely chose to return to the welfare home to engage in special education.
"The welfare home is my home, and the staff of the welfare home have given me a loving father and mother's affection and family warmth. I can't leave this home. My younger brothers and sisters, who share my life experience, need me." In 1998, Liao Yun became a teacher of the welfare home, opening his own special education career.
In the first few years of working, Liao Yun repeatedly switched roles. When children need to read, she is their teacher. When children need to take care of their daily life, she becomes an "aunt".
In the process of contacting with children, I thought that my preschool education major could play a role, but I didn't expect that she would face a very serious challenge.
In order to teach children how to pronounce, Liao Yun tried to teach them ten times, a hundred times or even several months. Many children still cannot pronounce or can pronounce, but they seriously deviate from the original syllables.
For this reason, she was once in distress, and a sense of frustration flooded her mind. She deeply realized that the difference between special education and preschool education requires a set of special teaching skills. As a result, Liao Yun began to read a large number of materials and learned special education discipline by himself from early to late. She has a deep understanding of the characteristics of different types of children, carefully observed and speculated on the situation of each child, and formulated a set of teaching programs suitable for different types of children in terms of cognitive, speech, movement development, etc. in view of different types of children such as cerebral palsy, low intelligence, cleft lip and palate.
In this way, in the process of growing up with the children, year after year passed quietly. In the 18 years since he first worked, Liao Yun has built a road of hope for the children in the welfare home through his own efforts in the post of special education.

At the age of 8, Xing Xing suffers from multiple diseases such as congenital heart disease, horseshoe varus, and hemiplegia. He is weak in language ability, likes to lose his temper, and always cries loudly.
Once, Liao Yun didn't blame him when he saw Xing Xing lose his temper and throw a toy. He walked gently to the child, squatted down, picked up the child with his motherly tenderness, touched her head, wiped away her tears, and said softly, "Xing Xing is a good child who is obedient and loves learning. If you don't cry, wipe away your tears, and laugh, Miss Liao will like you more." What Liao Yun didn't think of was his simple words. Star actually stopped crying, wiped his tears with the back of his hand and forced out a hard smile.
"Xing Xing is really a reasonable child. If you pick up these toys on the ground and put them back in the toy box, these toy babies will be very happy." Hearing Liao Yun's encouragement, Xing Xing bends down hard and painstakingly picks up the toys on the floor one by one.
After this "minor disturbance", Liao Yun began to correct and guide the stars "one-on-one". Nowadays, stars have fewer times to lose their temper, more words to communicate, less "bad habits" to throw things, and more friendly behaviors to help younger brothers and sisters. Seeing the change of stars also makes Liao Yun more confident about how to help special children.

In order to reduce the boredom in the speech training and the children's lack of cooperation, Liao Yun applies daily snacks and objects like lollipops, biscuits, toys and so on, which Xiaoqiang likes to eat, to the children's speech rehabilitation training. He uses tongue licking games, lip clipping biscuits, whistling and other training games.
Xiaoqiang was very happy to play with his teacher and soon learned a lot of vocabulary. When Xiaoqiang took the initiative to call her "Teacher Liao" for the first time, she hugged Xiaoqiang excitedly and cried.
Now Xiaoqiang has been able to communicate with people normally, and is no different from ordinary people in terms of convenient language expression. "Now he has gone to junior high school and is a cheerful young man." Liao Yun is very pleased to see Xiaoqiang's change.
Over the past 18 years, Liao Yun has explored a diversified education model integrating preschool children's early education, rehabilitation education for hemiplegic children, teaching assistants in social institutions, volunteers and other forms of education in the special education work of welfare homes.
In order to better solve the shortage of special education teachers in the orphanage, a single teaching method, and improve the teaching ability and service ability of the special education team, Liao Yun often discusses teaching plans for different types of children and their case children with teachers, and has also invited experts from the Language Training Department of Zhejiang Minkang Center to the orphanage for guidance, Analyze the problems existing in the education of special children and the factors that need to be overcome.
In the past 18 years, she has welcomed many children and sent them away. Although she didn't want her children to leave, she was happy to see them return to their families and start a new life.
