(People's Daily) According to the data from the Import and Export Bureau of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, in the first quarter of 2022, Vietnam is the seventh largest banana supplier in the Japanese market, reaching 1.5 million tons, with an export volume of 166 million yen (about 1.3 million US dollars). Compared with the same period in 2021, the export volume and export volume increased by 38.5% and 30.2% respectively.
Bananas imported from Vietnam accounted for only 0.6% of Japan's total imports, an increase of 0.2% over the same period in 2021.
Japan imports bananas from Ecuador, the Philippines, Taiwan and other countries and regions. Importers said that Vietnamese bananas taste delicious and better. With competitive prices and excellent quality, Vietnamese bananas are competitive with similar products in the Japanese market.
According to the statistics of Japan Customs, in the first quarter of 2022, the Japanese market imported 244300 tons of bananas (HS code: 0803), worth 2240 million yen (about 171 million dollars), 2.5% less than the import volume in 2021, and 3.5% more than the import volume in 2021.
It is worth noting that the Philippines is the main banana supply market in the Japanese market in 2022, reaching 190800 tons, with an export volume of 17.3 billion yen (about US $132 million). The export volume increased by 0.5% year on year, and the export volume increased by 6.3% year on year, accounting for 78.1% of Japan's total banana imports.
