Dafang County is located in the northwest of Guizhou Province, the middle of Bijie City, the upper reaches of Chishui River, the north bank of Liuchong River, the hinterland of Wumeng Mountain, and the west end of Dalou Mountain. It is adjacent to Qianxi County in the east, Jinsha County in the northeast, Liugui River and Zhijin County in the south, Nayong County across the river in the southwest, and Qixingguan District in the west and northwest. The total area of the county is 3505.21 square kilometers, 86.2 kilometers from east to west and 85.2 kilometers from north to south.
   The county seat is 46 kilometers away from Bijie Municipal Government, 130 kilometers away from Guiyang, and 500 kilometers away from the South China Sea. The county has jurisdiction over 37 townships (towns, streets), 389 village (neighborhood) committees, and lives in 24 ethnic groups, including Han, Yi, Miao, and Bai, with a total population of 1.223 million, of which 33.2% are ethnic minorities.
