Spiritual blow is no better than living
In the early years, Grandpa Fu didn't get married until he was in his 30s because of his poor family. He had a very nice fat boy, so he treasured this relationship. In order to better shoulder the burden of the family, I left my wife and children to go out to work. I only went home once a year for the Spring Festival. Until one summer, my wife died of illness, leaving my son and Grandpa Fu to live together.
Grandpa Fu told us that he could not sleep at night for a long time, and he was his wife when he closed his eyes. But life will continue. I can't go out to work and work nearby. I will earn some part-time jobs to raise my son. After looking at the portrait of his wife on the wall, Grandpa smiled and said, "As long as you are alive, it is good!" He noticed that his expression was slightly lonely and bitter. After learning about Grandpa Fu's life, it is true that some things cannot be decided by ourselves, but we can face it in the way we feel right.

Human suffering can not resist the truth
Now Grandpa Fu is almost 70 years old. He is seriously ill and has stiff legs. He will be able to grow some vegetables in the field and eat them at ordinary times. After his son graduated from junior high school, he worked outside. He would come back to see him in two or three months, cook delicious food and bring him daily necessities. At present, my son's income is only for two people to live in. The original home collapsed in the earthquake in 2008. Because I have no money to repair the house, I now live in a rented place.
We took several photos of Grandpa Fu. Grandpa Fu was very happy. He said with tears in his eyes that he had never taken photos in his life, and that he missed a lot of things. Special thanks to us for coming to visit him. Usually, he is alone at home and he is lonely. If there is a place nearby where we can communicate, we have to stay at home and do some simple farm work.

Let life treat them well
We learned from the volunteer's visit that Grandpa Fu's household appliances had not been changed for a long time, and the bedding was also a long time ago. The window would leak, and it would be particularly cold in winter. Grandpa Fu said that he would wear two clothes to sleep in winter, and then cover two quilts to make it less cold.
Because the room is too damp, the cotton wadding has become moldy and can no longer be used normally. Now I live in my son's room.

Project Background
With the intensification of the competition in modern life, many young people are doing business abroad or working or working in other cities. Because they have worked and lived outside for a long time, they seldom return home several times a year. Some children even do not return home for a year or several years in order to save fares and reduce lost time. The elderly are too busy to take care of themselves because of their children's busy work, and they are unwilling to add burden to their children, so they finally choose to live alone.
The survey found that only 48.15% of the elderly in need often go to the outdoor open space for a walk, and 29.51% of the elderly in need often go to the square park. In addition, only 17.44% of the elderly in need often go to participate in activities. In terms of cultural and sports activities, 13.02% often participate, 37.06% occasionally participate, and 49.92% do not participate.

Project theme
In rural and suburban areas, there are many elderly people in distress who, like Grandpa Fu, have poor quality of life, lack of or dilapidated life tools, because of some of their own experiences, they are strong and lonely. These people need to be cared for. For this reason, we launched the project of "Caring for the New Home for the Elderly in Distress" to build a place for the elderly to communicate and accompany each other, and carry out activities suitable for the elderly to participate in, so that they can live a happy and healthy life.

Evaluation of implementation effectiveness and feasibility
Since 2020, the project has established two new homes for the elderly in need, serving 45 elderly in need, such as widows and empty nesters, accompanying them through their old age for three years, and carrying out more than 300 activities to make their old age rich and colorful, so that this group of elderly who have made lifelong efforts for our happy life will have a meeting place, a festive atmosphere, and a space for mutual communication.
At present, the agency has established two "New Homes for the Elderly in Distress", which have been operating for three years, with rich operating experience and strong execution ability. At the same time, during the three years of project operation, we have accumulated a large number of promotable models, including the development model of festival activities, elderly accompanying skills, and the development framework of regular activities, providing practical and promotable tools for the project.
