The first time I saw Dai Zhengqin was in the dressing room where the program "Youth Talk" was recorded. With her beautiful face, white skin and petite figure, the girl in front of her is hard to connect with the woman who is calm and firm, who rushed to the front of the peacekeeping battlefield and risked her life.
But it was such a weak girl who, as a blue helmet female soldier in the 20th batch of Chinese peacekeeping forces to Lebanon, went to the Lebanon mission area to carry out a one-year demining mission, and put the most beautiful youth on the peacekeeping battlefield.
"I know it's dangerous, but this task must be done by someone." In April 2021, Du Fuguo, the "hero of demining", returned to his unit to share his demining deeds with everyone. The words "Let me come" ignited the flame in Dai Zhengqin's heart.
As one of the most dangerous types of work in the world, minesweeping is extremely dangerous and uncertain. If you want to become a qualified minesweeper, you must practice excellent skills.
During the peacekeeping training, Dai Zhengqin wore heavy protective clothing every day to conduct kneeling digging training in the scorching sun. He knelt for hours. He could only sleep on his back when lying in bed at night, because his knees were red and purple, and it was painful to lie down.
In order to better master the use of the mine detector, she pressurizes herself by lifting bricks on the training ground and dumbbells in the equipment room. Before going to bed, she does not forget to make several groups of flat supports on the bed. Sometimes after a day of training, her hands shake so hard that she cannot hold chopsticks firmly.
In addition, she never flinched from the assessment of more than ten subjects, such as theory, physical ability, psychological and behavioral training. "I believe that if others can do it, I will also do it. As long as I dare to persist, I can win."
After arriving in Lebanon, Dai Zhengqin was greeted by the "ultimate assessment" near the battlefield. She and her comrades in arms passed more than 30 tests in 13 courses of the United Nations Mine Action Center at one time, obtained the qualification certification for mine clearance and explosive removal, and officially became mine clearance operators.
Every step in the international peacekeeping battlefield is full of dangers and challenges, and every second in the minefield is a test of life and death.
"When digging a mine, it usually takes several hours to work in a kneeling position before the tail of the mine can be seen." Dai Zhengqin said that some mines are buried under tree stumps, and the intricate entanglement of tree roots greatly increases the difficulty of handling; Almost half of the surface of some mines are burnt, and their performance is extremely unstable.
Despite difficulties, Dai Zhengqin and her comrades in arms never flinched. They worked together and successfully completed mine clearance tasks again and again.
"As soon as I think that local people can freely graze and grow crops on the land we cleared, I think all the efforts are worthwhile," said Dai Zhengqin.
As an outstanding minesweeper in the field of international peacekeeping of the United Nations, Dai Zhengqin was awarded the United Nations Peace Medal Memorial Medal. In September 2022, Dai Zhengqin successfully completed the one-year international peacekeeping and demining mission and returned to the familiar campus. In March this year, she was rated as the "most beautiful college student" in 2022 by the Central Propaganda Department and the Ministry of Education.
The most beautiful youth is with the motherland and resonates with the times.
