Among the ten million population cities, the most obvious change is that the permanent population of the four first tier cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen has returned to positive growth and reversed collectively.
Among them, by the end of 2023, Beijing's permanent population will be 21.858 million, an increase of 15 thousand over the end of the previous year, ending six consecutive drops.

Feng Kui, vice president and researcher of China Regional Science Association, told reporters of China Singapore Finance and Economics that with the continuous optimization of the spatial structure of first tier cities, the first tier urban agglomeration and first tier metropolitan area driven by first tier cities in the future will have stronger population and economic carrying capacity.
Zhengzhou's permanent population growth ranks first
From the perspective of population growth, Zhengzhou has the largest population growth in the past year among 17 cities with a population of 10 million.
According to the data of Zhengzhou Bureau of Statistics, by the end of 2023, the city's permanent population will be 13.08 million, breaking the 13 million people mark, an increase of 180000 over 2022, and the population growth will rank first among 17 cities with a population of 10 million.
Why does Zhengzhou's population increase so fast?
This is inseparable from Zhengzhou's economic development and transformation into the fast lane. The economic growth rate of Zhengzhou will reach 7.4% in 2023 and 6.2% in the first quarter of this year.

By the end of 2023, Hefei's permanent population will be 9.853 million, an increase of 219000 or 2.27% over the previous year. This means that Hefei is not far from the city with a population of ten million.
Of the 219000 increase, only 18000 people grew naturally, and the proportion of the population who migrated to the city was more than 90%. According to the data released by Hefei, in 2023, the city will have a net increase of 201000 migrants, accounting for 91.8% of the net increase in permanent population, an increase of 66000 over the previous year.
