Loongson Release Highlights 3A6000 Processor Analysis

The Godson 3A6000 processor uses the LoongArch dragon architecture instruction set developed by Godson Zhongke. This instruction system will be released in 2020, and the first generation of Godson 3A5000 processor will be installed. LoongArch dragon architecture instruction set is a completely self-developed instruction set, which does not require any authorization. LoongArch has successfully achieved zero breakthrough in the core underlying architecture of the chip.

This time Godson3A6000 adopts the 12nm process, which is the same as the previous generation 3A5000. The micro architecture core is upgraded from the LA464 of Godson3A5000 to the fourth generation LA664, Word 664 represents 6 transmit 64 bits. Each Godson 3A6000 processor has four LA664 cores, which support 128 bit vector processing extension instructions (LSX) and 256 bit advanced vector processing extension instructions (LASX). This has greatly improved various performances.

Godson 3A6000 supports simultaneous multithreading technology (SMT2), and provides 4-core 8-thread configuration. The simultaneous multithreading technology SMT is similar to the hyper threading technology used on AMD processors, with one core simulating two threads.

The main frequency of Godson 3A6000 is 2.5GHz, The three-level cache is 16MB, and a dual channel DDR4-3200 memory controller is integrated internally.

This time, Godson 3A6000 has greatly improved its performance compared with the previous generation of Godson 3A5000 because of its optimized architecture design and support for simultaneous multithreading technology. According to official data, according to the test report of the Fourth Institute of Electronics, Godson 3A6000 can improve its performance by 103% compared with the Godson 3A5000 in the test of SPEC CPU 2006, and 34% in the single threaded test of Unixbench. The performance level has caught up with the level of Intel 10 generation four core processors, that is, the performance of 10100 and 10105 products is comparable. According to the survey, most users are still using the 89 generation Core. For most users, the Godson 3A6000 is absolutely adequate for daily use.

Mr. Hu Weiwu also said that at present, Godson 3A6000 has basically completed the task of "making up lessons", basically filling the gap with mainstream processors. In 2002, the gap between Godson-1 processor and mainstream products in the market was 20 times. In 2013, the gap between the main frequency of Godson-3A1000 was 2-3 times, and the performance gap per GHz was 4-6 times. By 2021, the Godson 3A5000 will have reduced this gap to less than one time, equivalent to the third generation Core i3 four cores. The current Godson3A6000 is comparable to the 89 generation Core mainly used by the public, and the performance of domestic processors has finally caught up.

At this conference, Mr. Hu Weiwu also revealed that in the next year or two, we will see the server oriented Godson 3C6000, Godson 3D6000, and Godson 3E6000, which respectively support 16 core 32 threads, 32 core 64 threads, and 64 core 128 threads. The Godson 3C6000 has been designed. A single chip provides 16 cores, supports DDR4-3200 four channel memory, and can expand 64 PCIe 4.0 links. Through the Loongson Coherent Link, the Loongson 3C6000 can be integrated into the Loongson 3D6000 and the Loongson 3E6000. This technology is enough to benchmark with Intel CXL, NVIDIA NVLink, AMD Infinity Fabric and other inter link technologies.

As for the mobile terminal, Godson 2K3000 will be launched, which adopts LA364 micro architecture and LoongArch dragon architecture instruction set design, supports up to 8 cores and 8 threads. The single core performance is comparable to the desktop level Godson 3A6000, supports rich expansion, and the integrated LG200 GPU core. This chip supports OpenGL 4.0 graphics rendering and OpenCL 3.0 general computing and AI acceleration and other functions. At present, Godson 2K3000 has completed the front design, which still needs some time for research and development.
