1、 Passport

My passport is about to expire. Will the passport number change after the new passport is issued? Can the foreign visa in the original passport still be used?

The new passport number is different from the original passport. The original passport will be cancelled, but the new passport will be marked with a replacement note, including the original passport number. As for whether the visa in the original passport is still valid, different countries have different practices. Please consult the embassies and consulates or immigration departments of relevant countries.

Children under the age of 16, whose passports are about to expire, want to go through the renewal procedures at the embassy, but both parents cannot be present at the same time, what should we do?

When a person under the age of 16 applies for a passport, one of his parents or other legal guardians shall accompany him to apply for a passport, and he shall issue a written opinion agreeing to apply for a passport.

My passport was issued in China and is about to expire. Can I send it back to my parents for renewal in China?

No. The passport or travel permit cannot be separated from the holder. If the holder of a passport or travel permit is abroad, he/she should apply to the Chinese embassy or consulate in the country where he/she is located for the renewal of the passport or travel permit. He/she cannot entrust domestic relatives or friends in China to apply for the renewal of the passport or travel permit in China, and then send the passport or travel permit abroad for use. Similarly, if the holder of a passport or travel permit is in China, he/she should apply to the local public security organ for relevant procedures. Do not send the passport or travel permit abroad and then apply to Chinese embassies and consulates abroad for renewal procedures.

One page of my passport was torn when I applied for a visa. Do I need to change it?

In order to ensure that entry and exit will not be blocked or cause unnecessary trouble due to damage, it is recommended to replace the new photo.

My passport is still valid for more than one year. Can I apply for a new passport?

If you really need to change your passport in advance due to the shortage of visa pages, local residence, visa extension, work permit or other legitimate reasons, and can give reasonable instructions, you can also apply for a new passport.

The lost passport reported at the embassy and consulate has been found, but the new passport has not been handled yet. Can I continue to use the recovered passport?

The recovered lost passport cannot be used any more, or the holder will be blocked when entering or leaving the country.

2、 Note and change the information on the passport

Is it possible to apply for changing the name on your passport if you were born abroad and have no household registration at home?

Please go to the consular department of Chinese embassies and consulates abroad to apply for changing the name and changing the license, and make a note of the former name on the new license. The basic materials required are as follows: original and copy of passport; Declaration of Nationality Status: application form; Photo; A written statement shall bear all legal consequences arising from the change of name; Documents with legal effect related to the former name.

After I married a foreigner abroad, I followed my husband's surname. Can I write my husband's name on my passport?

You can put your husband's name on the notes page of your passport in the form of notes. Please go to the consular department of Chinese embassies and consulates abroad to apply for name notes. The basic materials required are as follows: original and copy of passport; application; Photo; Original and photocopy of marriage certificate or relevant notarial certificate and legal document.

My passport uses the lunar birthday, and my ID card also uses the lunar birthday. I want to change the date of birth on my passport to the Gregorian birthday. Can I apply at the embassy or consulate?

In this case, you need to go through the change procedures in the domestic household registration department first. It is recommended that you go back to China for renewal.

3、 Travel permit

I am a Chinese citizen and now live in country A for a long time. I lost my passport while traveling in country B yesterday, but I am anxious to return to China to visit my relatives. Can I go to the Chinese embassy and consulate in country B to reissue my passport?

If your time allows, you can wait for the production of your new passport (it may take a long time to reissue your passport), and the Chinese embassy and consulate in country B can accept your request for reissue of your passport. If your time is urgent, you can apply for a travel permit to the Chinese embassy or consulate in country B.

I have to rush back to China now. I just found that my passport has expired. What should I do?

You can go to the local Chinese embassy or consulate to explain the situation, and apply for a travel permit to return home first. After returning to China, if you have a domestic residence, you can go through the formalities for changing your passport in China. You can also go through the renewal formalities after returning to the local place from China, and return your travel permit for cancellation at the same time.

When my child was born in a foreign country, he applied for a travel permit to return to China for life. But now his travel permit has expired. The public security organ said that he cannot apply for a travel permit. What should I do?

If you want to leave the country after the travel permit expires, you can apply to the public security organ for a one-time exit and entry pass. Please consult the local public security organ for specific requirements. After leaving the country, you can apply to Chinese embassies and consulates abroad for a new travel permit.

I am a Chinese citizen, and my child was born in country A with a travel permit. Now I live in country B. My child's travel certificate has expired. Do I have to go back to the Chinese embassy and consulate in the original issuing country A to apply for a replacement?

No, you can apply to the Chinese embassy or consulate in country B.

4、 Hong Kong and Macao residents

I am a resident of Macao and have lost my Macao SAR passport abroad. At present, I have urgent matters to deal with in Macao. What kind of travel documents can I apply for?

You can apply to Chinese embassies and consulates abroad for the People's Republic of China travel permit to return to Australia to handle urgent matters.

I am a Hong Kong resident and have just lost my HKSAR passport. At present, I have urgent matters to deal with in Hong Kong. What kind of travel documents can I apply for?

If you hold a new version of Hong Kong permanent identity card, you can apply to Chinese embassies and consulates abroad for a travel permit of the People's Republic of China to return to Hong Kong; If you do not hold a new version of Hong Kong permanent identity card and need to return to Hong Kong urgently, you can apply to Chinese embassies and consulates abroad for the Statement of Entry Identity and the "Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Entry Permit of the People's Republic of China".

I am a permanent resident of Hong Kong and currently live abroad. Can I apply for a Hong Kong permanent identity card at the Chinese embassy or consulate?

You can apply for a Hong Kong permanent resident identity card when you apply for a Hong Kong SAR passport, not separately. You must report to the personnel registration office and apply for a new card within 14 days after returning to Hong Kong.
