Tips for international travel documents

   Part I Preparation

● Apply for a passport. The Chinese passport is an important document for Chinese citizens to enter and exit the country and to prove their nationality and identity abroad. Before going abroad, Chinese citizens must apply to local public security organs or foreign affairs departments for passports of corresponding types according to the reasons for going abroad. Countries have different requirements on the validity of passports held by foreigners, which should generally be more than one year.

● Apply for a visa. Chinese citizens usually need to apply to the embassies and consulates of the countries in China before going abroad and obtain the corresponding visas, except for the cases where the bilateral agreements or the unilateral provisions of the countries in which they go can exempt them from visa or apply for a landing visa, or they need to apply for a visa in a third country. Some countries stipulate that transit visas need to be completed in advance even if they do not transfer from the airport. ● Complete the certification. If domestic certificates, certificates, etc. need to be used in foreign countries, they generally need to obtain official certificates or other supporting documents in advance from domestic notaries, CCPIT, entry-exit inspection and quarantine institutions, etc. If they are used in countries not party to the Convention on the Cancellation of Certification Requirements for Foreign Official Documents, they generally need to obtain consular certification from the foreign affairs department, And then sent to the national embassies and consulates in China for certification. If it is used in a country that is a party to the Convention, it is only necessary to apply for an additional certificate through the foreign affairs department. Before going abroad, please confirm that the notarization and certification/additional certificate procedures of relevant documents have been completed.

● Sanitation and epidemic prevention. Please pay attention to understand the national health and epidemic prevention requirements, and inject vaccine as required. If necessary, please complete the International Travel Health Examination Certificate and the International Certificate of Vaccination or Preventive Measures in advance.

● Copy for use. In case of urgent need, it is recommended to copy the passport (passport information page and note page, foreign visa, entry and exit records, etc.), as well as notarization and certification of legal documents and other materials before going abroad. If necessary, the notarization and authentication procedures for the copies of important documents that are consistent with the original can also be handled in advance for standby.

● Emergency information. It is recommended to carry the invitation letter of the foreign party, the name, address, contact information and other basic information of the inviter (some countries require the parties to carry it).    Part II Exit and Entry

● Exit and entry inspection. Please exit and enter from the open ports, and take the initiative to show valid passports and visas to the border inspectors. When the frontier inspection personnel release, they will stamp the exit and entry inspection seals on their passports. Border inspectors have the right to refuse entry or exit of persons with valid passports and visas in accordance with relevant Chinese laws and regulations.

● Certificate of going abroad. If a Chinese citizen holding a business passport needs to apply for a visa abroad, or if the first country he goes to is a visa free country and uses an electronic visa, he or she should submit the Certificate of Going Abroad (Exit) in accordance with relevant regulations.

● Entry and exit from foreign countries. When entering or leaving a foreign country, please show your valid passport and visa to the foreign immigration officer on your own initiative. Please answer the questions of foreign immigration officials truthfully. When answering questions, please be sure to be consistent with the information provided when applying for a visa.

● Entry and exit materials. Please fill in the foreigner's entry and exit card, customs declaration form and other forms truthfully according to the requirements, or show the relevant certification materials as required. Please make sure that your passport has been stamped with the entry or exit verification seal, and keep the entry and exit cards and other materials properly to avoid being blocked or even punished during your stay or exit.

● Refusal to enter or leave the country. People with valid passports and visas to go to the country are usually allowed to enter and leave the country. However, according to relevant national laws and international practices, immigration officials also have the right to refuse entry and exit of persons with valid visas.

   Part III Residence abroad

● Pay attention to the validity of your passport. During your stay abroad, please check and pay attention to the validity of your passport. If the validity of the passport is less than one year, you can apply to the Chinese embassies and consulates abroad for a new passport.

● Carry certificates as required. If the country of residence clearly stipulates, please take your passport or residence permit with you and keep it properly, so as to accept the inspection of local military police or immigration officials when necessary.

● Timely report the lost passport. If you accidentally lose your passport, please report it to the local police department as soon as possible and go to the nearest Chinese embassies and consulates abroad Report and apply for replacement of passport or travel permit. If you find someone else's Chinese passport, you should contact the passport holder or the nearest Chinese embassies and consulates abroad , or send it to the original licensing authority.

● Pay attention to visa validity and stay period. Usually stay in the destination country according to the validity or duration of the visa. If there is no stay period for visas of individual countries, the immigration officer shall annotate the stay period at the time of entry. Please pay attention to the period of validity or stay endorsed by the visa or immigration officer. Do not extend your stay.

● Timely handle residence procedures. If you need to stay abroad for more than the period permitted by the visa, please pay attention to the requirements of the laws and regulations of the country of residence, and apply to the local immigration authorities for visa extension or residence procedures in advance.

● Complete visa or residence procedures as soon as possible. If you lose your passport carelessly, you should reapply for a visa or change your residence certificate as soon as possible according to the laws and regulations of your country of residence after you apply for a new passport or travel document.

● Pay attention to the validity of the document. The matters involved in some legal documents, such as marital status, no criminal record and living notarization, are variable, and the validity period is generally 6 months. In addition, some countries have special provisions on the prescription of some types of legal instruments. It is recommended to apply and use it as soon as necessary.

● Carefully sign foreign documents. The laws of different countries are quite different. When you are abroad, please do not sign on the foreign language document until you fully understand and accept the content, rights and obligations and purpose of use of the foreign language document.

● Use of foreign documents in China. If all kinds of certificates and certificates issued by countries not parties to the Convention on the Cancellation of Certification Requirements for Foreign Official Documents need to be used in China, they usually need to be notarized in the local notary office in advance, authenticated by the local competent department, and then sent to the Chinese embassy or consulate in the local place for authentication. If the various certificates and certificates of the States parties to the Convention need to be used in China, they usually need to be notarized in advance in the local notary office, and the additional certificates can be handled through the local competent department, without having to be sent to the Chinese embassy or consulate in the local place for other procedures.    Part IV Application Certificate

● Passport and travel document services. In accordance with Chinese laws and regulations, embassies and consulates abroad can provide Chinese citizens with the following travel document services such as passports: accept applications for passport issuance, renewal and reissue; Accept passport annotation applications; Accept applications for travel documents and other travel documents; Applications for travel documents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to and from the mainland will be accepted.

● Notarial certification and marriage registration services. According to relevant Chinese laws, regulations and relevant international treaties, embassies and consulates abroad can handle relevant documents for Chinese citizens notarization or authentication To deal with disputes between Chinese citizens, provided that they do not conflict with the laws and regulations of the host country and the host country recognizes them Marriage registration Formalities.

● Certificate processing time. When receiving applications for passports or other travel documents, embassies and consulates stationed abroad need to verify their identities with the original licensing authority or the place of residence. The time required to complete the process depends on the progress of identity verification. It usually takes 1 to 4 working days to apply for notarization, certification or marriage registration. The embassies and consulates stationed abroad shall collect fees for handling consular certificates in accordance with relevant Chinese laws and regulations.

● The embassies and consulates stationed abroad cannot provide the following certificate services: handling foreign visas, stay or residence procedures, work permits, etc. on behalf of Chinese citizens; Directly authenticate the notarial certificate issued by the domestic notary office in China; Certify documents not issued by relevant institutions in the consular area of the library; The fact that the direct notarization took place in China, or other certificates and documents issued by relevant domestic units; Handle other certificates or certificates that cannot be handled according to laws and regulations of China.

● The official information shall prevail. Please visit in advance China Consular Service Network And the official website of the relevant Chinese embassies and consulates in the country of residence to learn the latest information about the certificate application instructions, forms, fees, etc., and make preparations in advance. Please do not trust the information provided by other institutions, individuals or websites to avoid being cheated.

   Part V Safe Use

● Keep it properly. Please keep your passport, notarized and certified legal documents and their copies properly. For the sake of safety, please store the above certificates in a safe place that is fireproof, waterproof and anti-theft.

● Prevent loss. Unless otherwise required by the country concerned, it is advisable to carry a copy of your passport when you go out. If you really need to carry the original, please take it with you and keep it properly, especially in crowded areas such as airports, shopping and catering places. Please do not leave your passport alone in a vehicle or in a suitcase, or take it out with your ID card or passport copy to avoid losing it at the same time.

● Use with caution. Pay attention to minimizing the number of times the passport is used in public places, and confirm that the passport has been placed properly after use. If necessary, when providing the passport to others (such as immigration officials), please ask for the voucher and take back the passport in time. The notarial certificate shall be used only when necessary.

● Do not lend collateral. Do not use your passport as collateral or substitute, nor lend it to others at will. Cherish your passport and ensure it is clean and tidy.

   Part VI Special Tips

● Application forms for various certificates are an important basis for applying for consular certificates. The applicant shall be responsible for the authenticity of the contents filled in and bear all legal liabilities arising therefrom. Please be sure to fill in and sign completely and clearly to ensure that the relevant contents are true and correct.

● When applying for various consular certificates and foreign visas, false declaration or provision of forged application materials, purchase, sale, forgery of passports, notarization certificates and other acts are prohibited by laws of various countries, and the parties concerned will be refused or revoked their certificates and visas, or even prosecuted for criminal responsibility.

● If the passport is expired, there is no passport, the period allowed by the foreign visa or residence procedure is exceeded, there is no valid visa or residence procedure to stay in a foreign country, or the person is engaged in activities inconsistent with the visa permit in the local area, the person concerned may be subject to deportation and other penalties, and may have a negative impact on the person concerned's future travel to the country.

● According to the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China, Chinese citizens residing abroad who voluntarily join or acquire foreign nationality, i.e. automatically lose Chinese nationality, should go to Chinese embassies and consulates abroad in time to cancel their original Chinese passports. If you need to come to China, you must apply for a Chinese visa with a foreign passport. Do not continue to use a Chinese passport to come to China or carry out other international travel.

● In accordance with the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China and the Basic Law of the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China and relevant regulations, Hong Kong and Macao compatriots should apply to the competent government departments of Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions or Chinese embassies and consulates abroad for Hong Kong and Macao passports or other travel documents.
