On March 8, the submission ceremony of the instrument of accession to the Convention on the Cancellation of Certification Requirements for Foreign Official Documents (hereinafter referred to as the Convention) was held at the Peace Palace in The Hague. On behalf of China, Tan Jian, the Chinese ambassador to the Netherlands, submitted the instrument of accession to the depositary of the Convention (the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

Since the entry into force of the Convention in 1965, its role in simplifying the procedures for transnational circulation of official documents and facilitating international trade and personnel exchanges has been widely recognized by the international community. Accession to the Convention is an important measure to implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, expand the institutional openness in the field of foreign-related document circulation, and is of great significance to promoting people to people and trade exchanges between China and foreign countries.

Ambassador Tan said that China has completed the domestic examination and approval procedures for its accession to the Convention and formally submitted its instrument of accession to the Convention's depositary today. He hoped that the Permanent Bureau of the Hague Conference on Private International Law and the contracting parties would give active support so that the Convention could enter into force as scheduled between China and other members. China looks forward to further strengthening contacts with the Permanent Bureau and other States parties, drawing on the beneficial experience and practices of all parties, and jointly promoting the smooth implementation of the Convention.

The representatives present unanimously and warmly welcomed China's accession to the Convention.
