The reason why we need this spirit is, first of all, that any major achievement in scientific research can only be achieved after dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of failures. For a scientist, failure is often compared with success, while success is only a small amount. In their experience, the experience of failure is much richer than that of success.

The process of scientific research is a process of twists and turns. In the middle of this process, it is often the case that it seems to succeed but fails again. It seems to have failed, but after a lot of thinking and hard thinking, it is "another village with bright flowers and dark willows", showing hope. As Marx said, "There is no smooth road to science. Only those who are not afraid to climb along the steep mountain road can hope to reach the glorious peak."

Some young people think that Newton discovered the law of universal gravitation because he accidentally saw an apple fall on the tree and got a brainwave. In fact, Newton discovered the universal gravitation not only because he saw the apple fall, but also because the fact that the apple fell could be perceived by human beings. It is because he has long studied Kepler's laws of celestial motion and Galileo's law of falling objects. He has been thinking about this problem for a long time. Once he sees the phenomenon of apple falling, he can understand the truth of gravity. The inspiration of science can never wait. If there is any accidental opportunity in scientific discovery, then this "accidental opportunity" can only be given to those who have learned literacy, those who are good at independent thinking, and those who have persevering spirit, not to lazy people.

About Zhu Bangfen

He graduated from the Department of Engineering Physics of Tsinghua University in 1970. He was the chief professor of the physics class of Tsinghua School of Tsinghua University.

As a world-renowned condensed matter physicist, Zhu Bangfen and Huang Kun established the theory of semiconductor superlattice optical phonon mode, which was named "Huang Zhu Model" by the international academic community.

He cares about domestic education, has been teaching undergraduate students for many years, served as the convener of the physics discipline of the expert group of the Ministry of Education's "Experimental Plan for Training Top Students in Basic Disciplines", and served as the chief professor of Tsinghua School's physics class.
