20 "skillful hands" behind more than 25000 "zero defect" motor train traction motors

In 2016, two bullet trains passed at the intersection of Zhengzhou Xuzhou High speed Railway at a speed of 420 kilometers per hour, with a relative speed of 840 kilometers per hour.

The traction motors loaded on the two standard EMUs independently developed and designed in China are assembled by the motor car assembly team of the motor car section of the traction motor workshop of CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Co., Ltd. Rail Transit Division (hereinafter referred to as the "motor car assembly team").

The moment of fast speed attracts worldwide attention, but the interview of the EMU assembly team is quite "difficult". On the same day, Ouyang Xiang, the team leader, went on a business trip, and Yi Changshong, the deputy team leaders, and Wang Yu were "captured" from their work positions for interviews. They can never tell their "shining stories" when sitting in the conference room. "There is a good tradition", "everyone does this" and so on. In a few words, I "dismissed" the questions from the reporters of the Workers' Daily.

When asked urgently, they threw out a shield: "When the squad leader comes back, he can best say." Later, the interview with Ouyang Xiang proved that his "eloquence" is just a little better than his subordinates.

In sharp contrast to the "clumsy" interview, they assembled more than 25000 motor train traction motors with a pair of "skillful hands", achieving "zero defect" in assembly quality, and safely driving the high-speed railway to gallop in China and around the world

There is a "threshold" for team entry

The production site of the EMU assembly team is very quiet and clean.

Here, the reporter saw the motor called "the heart of the bullet train", a long and short "antenna" protruding from an irregular sphere. Compared with the behemoths on the production line of other factories, the motors here are only small. However, it is these "small heads" that are the power source of the world-famous "China's speed".

"Assembly" is the last step of motor production. Hundreds of thousands of accessories manufactured previously will be assembled here as a whole. "I just thought assembly was fun, so I applied to join the team." Recalling the choice 12 years ago, Ouyang Xiang said, "I really want to try."

In 2007, the research on EMUs in China has just started, and motor assembly is also a foreign technology introduced. Because it takes time to learn new technology, many people are unwilling to go to the EMU assembly class. Now, it has become a matter of "threshold" to want to join this team.

"We have investigated many aspects." Wang Yu's voice also showed a trace of pride when talking about it. He told reporters that every time a team selects people, most of them are eliminated. What kind of people can enter the team? Three post-80s boys all gave the same answer decisively, "responsible".

Yi Changshong has obtained double full marks of theory and practice in the company's skill contest. "The sense of responsibility is something invisible, just like when the motor is assembled, the interior can no longer be seen." At the bearing assembly station, Yi Changsong picked up a palm sized bearing and told the reporter that this is the core process of motor assembly. The bearing is also a part "hidden" in the deepest part of the motor. Each bearing should be coated with 10 to 13 grams of grease as required, And it must be completely and evenly plastered. Except for the operator, no one knows whether this step is in place.

"You can't steal any laziness." He turned the shiny stainless steel bearing in his hand and repeatedly stressed that after a shift, "you will feel your fingers swollen".

The "mother-in-law's mouth" that can't stop

There is no highly intense operation scene in the motor train assembly team.

The team members are distributed in 11 stations, some of them are observing the semi-finished products, and some of them are sitting down for a while when they are not alive. Only the motors they sent out one by one can confirm Ouyang Xiang's words: "There is an atmosphere of high standards and strict requirements in the team".

In 2010, with the increase of motor production, the company sent him to do after-sales service for two years. During this period, Ouyang Xiang handled various problems and had a deep understanding of the word "quality".

Once, Ouyang Xiang found that a bolt was not tightened when he inspected a motor to be delivered to the customer at the team site. "He was so angry that he shivered all over." He said that at the speed of 200km/h of the "Harmony" EMU at that time, if this bolt fell off and splashed out, it would almost be a bullet, which could lead to extremely serious consequences.

Ouyang Xiang is determined to prevent the recurrence of such problems from the source. When he just returned to the team, he often called everyone together after work. According to the actual situation of each station, he told the team members what the corresponding operating standards were, and what problems might occur if they were only "about the same".

"At first, I felt very bored, but I didn't think so." Several team members told reporters frankly. Ouyang Xiang is also not annoyed. He never tires of nagging and acts according to the standard. Slowly, someone began to remind the workmen when their operation was not standard, and someone took the initiative to check the previous process

After the motor is assembled, it must go through three checks: quality inspection, re inspection and special inspection. "No one wants to be found out that their processes are defective," Ouyang Xiang said.

As a result, he has the nickname of "mother-in-law mouth". "Doing things well for the first time" has gradually become the belief of the EMU assembly team. The team lean production experience has been rated as an excellent case of team construction management of the group company.

Now, this "mother-in-law mouth" still can't stop. At the morning meeting every day, Ouyang Xiang would say something about who should learn new skills and who should remember to take the qualification exam. Maybe I can't stand this "mother-in-law" saying that 20 people in the team are all double skilled employees... "One person can't have only one technology in his life."

"It's really ordinary"

When Yi Changshong and Wang Yu returned to the production site from the conference room, they became relaxed.

Touching the finished motor products waiting for delivery, they said that when they graduated from school, they did not expect to deal with such an "iron lump" day and night.

There are times when the "iron lump" is not easy to deal with. In 2018, the traction motor of "Fuxing" standard EMU began mass production. Following the previous assembly method of "Harmony", the bearing had a scrap rate of up to 30%, and a direct loss of nearly 300000 yuan per month.

In more than a month of verifying the solution, when hungry, he ate a mouthful of bread, and when sleepy, he lay on the floor for a while. Ouyang Xiang and his colleagues finally confirmed that the horizontal assembly method of "Harmony" was improved to the vertical assembly method of "Fuxing", completely avoiding bearing scrap.

"We really got it," Ouyang Xiang said.

Recently, on different occasions, members of the EMU assembly class are always asked: "What is your strength?" Nobody can answer.

There is no unique skill here, and it is not exposed to the wind and the sun. "It is really ordinary." In this team whose average age is only 32 years old, some people have no one to take care of their children because their wives are sick, and they are also distracted from their work and make mistakes; When the production task is heavy, one month cannot take a day off, and some people will complain that they cannot take care of their families and children.

"But this is our job." Ouyang Xiang thought for a long time, and finally said, "One by one parts become motors here, and the motors connect 20 people together. What we do best is to do our job well."
