China University of Petroleum (Beijing), formerly known as Beijing Institute of Petroleum, was founded in 1953, based on the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Department of Petroleum Engineering of Tsinghua University, and gathered some teachers from Tianjin University, Peking University and other universities. It is the first petroleum university in new China, laying the foundation for exploration and development of China's petroleum higher education. The school runs in one school and two places.
