Dongchang City was built in the third year of Xining in the Northern Song Dynasty. It was originally a earthen city. In the fifth year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty, it was covered with bricks. The city wall was seven miles in circumference, nearly twelve meters high, and nearly twelve meters thick.
Dongchang City is also called Phoenix City. The inner wall is built with rammed earth and the outer wall is built with bricks and stones. During the Wanli period, more than 2700 piers and 27 enemy towers were built on the city wall.
