Chapter 1 The Precursor of Awakening

2006.

Myron, New York.

This is a quiet town with a small population. The neighbors are very familiar with each other. The folkway is good and the town is closed at night.

Just to the southwest of the town is a two-story building with three members of the Jones family.

Richard Jones is the pillar of the family. He has a virtuous wife who works in the supermarket, and a 14-year-old son, Ivan Jones, who has just finished junior high school.

In the morning, Ivan is adding fodder to dozens of cows in the cowshed, which is what his family is doing.

Usually, his family seldom asked him to do this because he was weak and only allowed him to concentrate on his studies. But recently, he graduated from junior high school and his father went out, so this job could only fall on him.

"It seems that in the future, I will be a rancher. This is a remote town. As long as I don't go to the big city, it should not be so bad."

Ivan is only fourteen years old, but he is in awe of the world.

Because he is a thoroughgoing traveler, and through all kinds of signs, he knows that this may be an unsafe world.

Fourteen years have passed, from fear and maladjustment in infancy to full acceptance now.

Just like the restart of life, primary school and junior high school are all over again. The only differences are culture and region, as well as their own health.

It was like a dream to think of the young people who had been tortured by illness in the ICU in the previous life.

Fortunately, the family treated him well and he lived happily every day.

The wind is blowing the leaves in the shed, and everything is so natural.

"Breakfast should be cold."

He likes food that is not so hot, so he purposely hangs his breakfast in the room.

Reaching out his hand, he intended to open the wooden door of the cowshed. Before touching the door, the door was blown open by a breeze.

The wooden door is stuck there and needs some force to push it open. How can the breeze blow it open?

He shook his head helplessly. He was used to it. These things that happened around him were against common sense.

Back in the room, sitting alone at the table, drinking warm milk and eating biscuits, I still have work to do today.

"I'm going to high school soon. I hope I'll be all right in the future."

At noon, a key opened the door.

"Hey, young man, look what I brought you!"

When Ivan heard this, he turned off the TV and came out of the inner room to meet his father.

"Dad, what's a good thing?" Ivan has a heartfelt smile on his face. Every time he says that, he must really have something he likes.

Richard Jones was standing at the door with his right hand on the shoulder of a strange girl in front of him.

"Her name is Jessica. She is my old friend's daughter, but because of some accidents, she will live with us. Let's treat her as a sister." Richard introduced her to Ivan.

"Hello..." Jessica said in a low voice.

She has a delicate and lovely face, a head of dark hair with black eyes.

This is the same as Ivan.

Depending on her age, she should be about the same age as Ivan.

"Er..." Ivan was stunned. "Hello, Jessica."

"She is fourteen years old. If possible, I will report you to the same high school, so that you can take care of each other. Oh, Jessica, I will show you to your room."

Richard said that and led Jessica upstairs. At last, he suddenly turned around and asked, "Well, how are the livestock today?"

"Very good, I have fed you all." Ivan nodded.

"Did you take the eggs? Did you disturb the hens?"

"Everything is fine."

"You are the best." Richard winked at Ivan.

As dinner approached, it was drizzling outside, and Ivan's mother Jenny was off work from the supermarket.

"Hey, Jenny, aren't you wet?" Richard came out of the kitchen to meet his beautiful wife. He was wearing an apron and holding a frying spoon, just like a housewife.

"Honey, no, where is Jessica? Has she got it back?" Jenny responded and went on to ask about Jessica. It seems that she has known Jessica for a long time and knows about it.

Ivan arranges the dining chair, but he doesn't know that there will be another sister at home.

"Yes, she is fine, but she is a little depressed," Richard said.

"It's normal to experience this kind of thing, so when I go to work, you should talk to her more, honey?" Jenny hung her coat on the wall.

"Yes, I do."

"Ivan, look what I brought back, chocolate milk stick." When Ivan's mother Jenny entered the hall, the first thing was to take out six chocolate bars from her purse and hand them to Ivan with a smile.

She brings some delicious food to Ivan every day after work in the supermarket.

She smiled and looked at Ivan, leaned down in Ivan's ear and said, "Give Jessica some."

"Good mother."

Even if Jenny didn't say anything, Ivan wouldn't eat them alone.

The rain outside the window is getting heavier and heavier. Ivan grabs the chocolate bar and goes to the second floor.

There are two rooms on the second floor. One is my own room, and the other room is closed. Jessica should be in it.

'Dong Dong'.

There were two knocks on the door.

"Jessica, dinner is coming."

"Hmm." The people inside answered without meaning to open the door.

"Well, can you open the door?"

The door is locked, Ivan asked, looking at the chocolate bar in his hand.

But no one answered in the room.

My sister, whom I recognized today, must have suffered some misfortune at home, so that she must live here.

No matter what misfortune it was, it must have had a psychological impact on her. Would she be so upset?

At the thought of this, Ivan's heart jumped and the door suddenly opened.

In the room, Jessica was sitting on the bed in her underwear, clutching the quilt.

"Well, do you want a chocolate bar?" Ivan compared the chocolate bar in his hand.

"You, did you open it with a key?" Jessica asked timidly, but she locked the door inside.

"Well, it's time for dinner."

"I, I'm not feeling well. I don't want to have dinner," Jessica said.

"Hmm... eat some of these," Ivan said, throwing out four chocolate bars, which fell into Jessica's right hand precisely through an arc in mid air.

Jessica was surprised that Ivan threw it too accurately. The four chocolate bars, like some magic, controlled them to fall into her hands without error.

"Thank you," Jessica said.

"My name is Ivan." Ivan smiled at Jessica, full of vitality. "Don't mention it, just take it as your own home."

Ivan goes downstairs. Richard and Jenny have already finished working in the kitchen, and the whole table is full of sumptuous dinners.

"Where's Jessica? Won't she come down?" Jenny asked softly.

"She said that she was uncomfortable and didn't want to have dinner." Ivan told the truth.

"This child, not having dinner is more harmful. I'll call her." Jenny said and went upstairs.

It was raining harder outside. Ivan pushed the door and came out, intending to cover his old motorcycle with transparent cloth.

He picked up the transparent cloth and quickly ran to the side of the motorcycle and covered it.

The rain fell in torrents, but it didn't fall on Ivan as if he had deliberately avoided him.
