  • Introduction to the Capital Museum:
The preparation of the Capital Museum began in 1953 and was officially opened to the public in 1981. The original site of the Capital Museum is in Beijing Confucian Temple, a key cultural relic under national protection. As a key cultural construction project during the "Tenth Five Year Plan" period in Beijing, the application for the establishment of the new Capital Museum project was approved by the Beijing Municipal Party Committee and the Beijing Municipal Government in 1999, reported by the National Development and Reform Commission to the State Council for approval in 2001, and officially laid the foundation in December 2001.
The new Capital Museum began its trial operation in December 2005 and officially opened on May 18, 2006. With its grand architecture, rich exhibitions, advanced technology and perfect functions, the Capital Museum has become a large modern museum commensurate with Beijing's status as a "historic and cultural city", "cultural center" and "international metropolis", and ranks among the "domestic first-class and international advanced" museums.
