Located on the bank of the Grate River, southwest of St. Gallen. It has a population of 14000 (1980) and speaks German. The industry includes cotton textile, paper making, wood, glass and metal ware. There are historic famous St. Lawrence Church (built in the 14th century and rebuilt in the 16th century) and abandoned castle.
