Zhu Fan, (1909.1.7-1987.1.8) formerly known as Zhu Zongren, also known as Zhu Yiwei, Zhu Shiqing, a native of Hewang Township, Lianshui County, Jiangsu Province. Born on January 7, 1909 (December 16 in the lunar calendar). [4] He graduated from Shanghai University of Arts in 1930, joined the "Anti imperialist League" the next year, joined the "Leftist Drama Federation" in 1932, soon joined the Communist Youth League, and joined the Communist Party of China in September of the same year. In 1937, he joined the national anti Japanese and national salvation movement. In January 1940, he joined the New Fourth Army and worked in the military headquarters. Later, he served as the secretary of the Special Branch, the head of the Propaganda Section of the Political Department of the New Fourth Army, the president of the New Democracy Daily, and the commissioner of the Tianbei Special Administration of Jiangsu Zhejiang Anhui District. During the War of Liberation, he successively held the posts of Propaganda Director of Shandong Jiaodong Prefectural Committee.
After the peaceful liberation of Hunan, Comrade Zhu Fan has successively served as the director of the Provincial Department of Culture and Education, the director of the Department of Education, the director of the Propaganda Department of the Provincial Party Committee, the member of the Provincial Party Committee, the director of the Preparatory Committee of Hunan Normal University, the president of Hunan University, the chairman of the Provincial Social Federation and other posts, and has done a lot of work for Hunan's education and philosophy and social sciences. He retired in 1982 and enjoyed the treatment of vice provincial level. He died in Changsha on January 8, 1987 at the age of 79. [1]

Zhu Fan was born in 1909 in Lianshui County, Jiangsu Province. He graduated from Shanghai Art University in 1930. He joined the Communist Party of China in September 1932 and was arrested for leading the employees of Shanghai Yingshang Bus Company to strike. After being released on bail, he lost contact with the Party organization. Later, he went to Malaysia to teach at Zunkong School in Kuala Lumpur, and was forced to leave the country by the authorities because of his participation in and support for the patriotic student movement.
In 1936, he returned to Shanghai and engaged in left-wing literary and artistic activities. Together with Ouyang Shan, the editor in chief of Novelist and Culture Monthly, he founded "Look at All" and "Juvenile Series" with Ai Siqi, and translated "Lu Xun is a Sword" (written by Slatley) and other works. After the death of Lu Xun, he wrote an article titled "One Side" under the pen name of "Alley" as a memorial. After the liberation, this article has long been listed as a middle school Chinese textbook and a university liberal arts textbook.
In August 1937, he rejoined the Communist Party of China and was sent by the Party to form a field service group. He led the group from Shanghai to Tunxi, Anhui, found the military headquarters of the New Fourth Army and carried out the work of the anti Japanese national united front under the leadership of Chen Yi. In May of the next year, he went to work for the Anhui Provincial Mobilization Committee in the Dabie Mountains, edited the Culture Monthly, wrote a large number of editorials, comments, essays, and translated a number of articles, publicized the Communist Party's anti Japanese ideas, mobilized the masses to join the army and actively support the front.
Since 1940, he has successively held the posts of secretary of the Special Branch of the Communist Party of China, editor of the War Zone Movement Committee, editor of the New Fourth Army Guerrilla Corps in Jiangbei, director of the Propaganda Section of the Political Department of the New Fourth Army, president of the New Democracy News, chief editor of the Jianghuai Daily, secretary general of the Huaihai District Administration, county head and minister of enemy industry of Lianshui County, commissioner of the Tianbei Special Administration of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui District, etc.
After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, he successively served as the Propaganda Director of Jiaodong Prefecture Committee of Shandong Province and the Propaganda Director of the Third Field Army Enemy Industry Committee. In August 1948, he was appointed by the Party to set up Zhongyuan University in Baofeng, Henan Province. He served as the secretary of the Party Committee of the University, the deputy provost of the University, and trained a large number of cadres going south. Later, he went south with the army and served as the military representative of Wuhan University.
After the peaceful liberation of Hunan, he successively held the posts of Vice President of Hunan People's Revolutionary University, Director of the Department of Culture and Education of Hunan Province, Deputy Director of the Provincial Culture and Education Commission, Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, member of the Provincial Committee of the CPC, President of Hunan University, etc. He has a high theoretical accomplishment of Marxism Leninism, is familiar with philosophy, literature, history, and has a good command of English and Japanese languages. He also has a good command of calligraphy. He gave up his academic development, obeyed the work needs of the Party, and devoted himself to cultural and educational undertakings. During his tenure as Director of Culture and Education Department, he went deep into schools, classrooms and dormitories to understand the situation, presided over the development of a series of school governance measures, and made outstanding contributions to basic education and higher education in Hunan. At the same time, we will carry out a campaign to encourage students to learn, organize part-time education for workers, and improve the cultural quality of workers and farmers. From 1953 to 1981, he served as the president of Hunan University for three times, and was ordered to work hard or face difficulties. He planned to train teachers, establish a backbone team of teachers, and actively develop new marginal disciplines to meet the needs of national economic construction. When he became president after smashing the Jiangqing counter revolutionary group, he brought order out of chaos and actively implemented the Party's intellectual policy. Support the work of the new team of the school after leaving, and still care about the construction and development of the school when seriously ill.
During the period of presiding over the work of the Propaganda Department, efforts were made to develop and improve the propaganda team, organize and promote the education of Marxism Leninism among cadres, and assist the Provincial Party Committee in managing newspapers, broadcasting, literature and art, health, sports and other work, making remarkable achievements. In 1954, he served as the chairman of the Federation of Social Science Societies of Hunan Province, and did a lot of useful work for the development of philosophy and social science in Hunan. For example, in 1962, he was responsible for organizing an academic seminar to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Wang Chuanshan's death. More than 200 national famous scholars, such as Li Da, Jian Bozan, and Lv Zhenyu, gathered in Hunan, and for the first time evaluated this great thinker in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties from the perspective of Marxism Leninism.
