In 2001, Shijiazhuang started planning subway projects.
In 2002, the first round of Shijiazhuang Rail Transit Network Planning 2002 was completed.The scale of the line network is 121km for 5 lines.On July 12, the first version of Shijiazhuang urban rapid rail transit network planning passed the review of national experts.
In July 2003, the Pre feasibility Study Report of Line 1 Phase I Project was completed, marking that Shijiazhuang Metro Project officially entered the preparatory period.After that, the Shijiazhuang subway was once stranded due to the reconstruction of the railway station.

In July 2012, the National Development and Reform Commission approved the recent construction plan of Shijiazhuang urban rail transit (2012-2020).According to the overall urban planning and comprehensive transportation planning of Shijiazhuang, the urban rail transit network of Shijiazhuang in the planned future year is composed of six lines, including six lines of "three main lines and three auxiliary lines", forming the interconnection pattern of "big radiation and small grid", with a total length of 241.7 kilometers, 160 stations, including 29 transfer stations, and a network density of 1.09 kilometers/square kilometers in the core area,The line network density in the central urban area is 0.42 km/km2.In the line network, Line 1 is the east-west backbone line arranged along the main axis of the urban area, connecting the main external traffic hubs and important functional nodes of the city. On November 28, 2017, the official website of Shijiazhuang Metro released the Bidding Announcement of Shijiazhuang Urban Rail Transit Phase II Construction Plan (2018~2024) Environmental Impact Report Preparation Project.The planning period is from 2018 to 2024, and the total length of the proposed line is about 105 km (including about 3.0 km for Line 1 Phase III, 23.2 km for Line 2 Phase II, 23.3 km for Line 4, 28.9 km for Line 5, and 26.8 km for Line 6).[9]
