Operation history

Shuohuang Railway Phase I started trial operation on May 28, 2000 [10] The whole line will be open to traffic on November 1, 2002 [6] , the daily carrying capacity of trains is 135.5 pairs, and the annual traffic volume is 360 million tons [11]
In July 2024, the centralized control mode of the dispatching center will be enabled for the Huangda Line of Shuohuang Railway. [17]

Freight volume

Shuohuang Railway has transported 4.107 billion tons of coal and other goods from its opening to May 2022 [11] From October 15, 2009 to October 15, 2023, a total of 176068 ten thousand ton heavy haul trains of Shuohuang Railway have been running for 14 years, with a total of 1.49 billion tons of coal transported in history [2]
In 2023, Shuohuang Railway will accomplish a cumulative freight volume of 368.42 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 19.302 million tons. The annual coal transport volume will exceed 300 million tons for six consecutive years, a record high [13]

Technical difficulties

There are 77 tunnels (66.3 km) and 381 bridges along the Shuohuang Railway [1] Crossing Hengshan Mountains and Taihang Mountains, crossing Hutuo River for 15 times, with a fall of 1527.63 meters between the east and west ends of the railway; Shensu section is high in mountains and deep in valleys. Bridges and tunnels are connected. 367 bridges are 80.3 kilometers long and 77 tunnels are 66.3 kilometers long. The construction is difficult and the technical standard is high [10] The Suhuang section is located in the North China Plain, with alluvial proluvial plain, alluvial plain, alluvial marine plain, coastal plain, coastal beach and other landforms. The engineering geology is distributed from east to west with soft clay layer, soft stratum, saline soil layer, seashore and coastal inundation area. At the same time, there is a large amount of liquefied soil and saline soil. The geological conditions and geotechnical conditions are very complex, And the distribution length is up to 60 kilometers, which makes the construction difficult [8]

Key projects

Shuohuang Railway crosses many mountains and rivers, creating a series of major projects, such as the Changliangshan Tunnel (12.7km), the second longest tunnel in China at that time, the fourth longest tunnel of China's double track railway, and the Sipujian Tunnel, the second longest tunnel of Shuohuang Railway at that time [15]
