The former campus was Beijing Electric Power University founded in 1958;Moved to Handan in 1969;In 1970, it moved to Baoding and changed its name to Hebei Electric Power University;In 1995, approved by the former State Education Commission, North China Electric Power University andBeijing Institute of Power EconomicsNorth China Electric Power University was merged and established, with its headquarters in Baoding and a separate campus in Beijing;In October 2005, the campus was changed from Baoding to Beijing, with Baoding Campus of North China Electric Power University set up separately, and the two places implemented substantive integrated management.[2]
As of May 2024, the department has 11 departments and 31 undergraduate majors.[32]By June 2023, the campus covers an area of more than 800 mu (in addition, a new campus is under construction, which covers an area of about 2256 mu, with a total planned building area of about 1.35 million square meters, and a recent building area of about 700000 square meters)[31]；There are about 16000 students of all kinds, including about 13000 undergraduates.[3]As of June 2022, the campus has 20 apartment buildings with a total floor area of more than 110000 square meters.[5]

In September 2005, the university was officially listed in the national "tenth five-year plan" and "211 project" of colleges and universities;In October of the same year, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the campus of the university was changed from Baoding to Beijing, with the campus of North China Electric Power University (Baoding) set up separately, and the two places implemented substantive integrated management.[2]
In May 2022, in order to improve the basic school running conditions of Baoding Campus, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the University signed the Cooperation Framework Agreement on Replacement Construction of Campus with Baoding Municipal People's Government, and planned to establish a new campus in Baoding.[4]

Scientific research achievements
As of June 2023, the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering in the campus has won one first prize for scientific and technological progress in Hebei Province and one second prize for natural science in Hebei Province;In recent years, the Department of Mathematics and Physics has published more than 260 SCI and EI search papers, obtained more than 50 national invention patents, and undertaken 25 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects.[7]

As of July 2021, the campus library is composed of the main library and the branch library of the second university, with a building area of more than 20000 square meters, nearly 1.5 million books, nearly 1000 Chinese and foreign newspapers and periodicals, more than 70000 back issues and bound copies, and more than 10000 doctoral and master theses of the university;More than 30000 CD audio and video materials and 80+electronic literature databases.[23]

As of June 2022, the school and the UKUniversity of Schlesclyde, UKUniversity of ManchesterCooperate to hold undergraduate education in electrical engineering and automation, and recruit 60 people in Baoding Campus.[24]
The campus has carried out cultural activities such as forum on strengthening legal theory research in the new era, special training on "building a strong sense of the Chinese national community", educational research and exchange with relevant departments of Hebei Institute of Finance, cognitive practice in Xiong'an New Area, team outdoor quality development training, exchange meeting on cultivating young teachers and talents in "talent department", and academic salon.[26-27]
