According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple is developing a large language model (LLM), which aims to improve the response speed and privacy protection ability of the upcoming generative AI function.
Gullman mentioned in his "Power On" newsletter that Apple's LLM will become the foundation of the company's future generative AI functions. Unlike most cloud based AI services today, all indications indicate that this model will run completely on user devices.
Although in some cases, Apple's AI tools may be inferior to competing products running directly in the cloud, Gullman pointed out that Apple can fill this gap by authorizing the use of Google and other AI service providers' technologies.
It is reported that last month Gullman reported that Apple was discussing with Google to integrate the latter's Gemini AI engine into the iPhone running iOS 18.
Compared with cloud based solutions, the main advantages of device side processing are faster response speed and better privacy protection. It is reported that Apple's AI technology marketing strategy will focus on how it can effectively help users improve their daily life efficiency, rather than simply emphasizing the powerful performance of the technology itself.
More details are expected to be announced at the WWDC conference in June, and the main Software Update schedule.
