Liam O’Fallon, M.A., is a Health Specialist in the Division of Extramural Research and Training where he is actively involved in research programs that advance community-engaged approaches as well as communication strategies in the context of environmental public health and health disparities. O’Fallon leads thePartnerships for Environmental Public Healthprogram at NIEHS, which fosters interactions among projects from different NIEHS-funded programs. He directs the Community Engagement Cores that are a part of the network ofEnvironmental Health Sciences Core Centers. He is the program officer for theResearch to Action Programthat requires projects to use community-engaged research methods to conduct and to translate research findings into public health action. O’Fallon has led the development of two new programs at NIEHS: thePediatric and Reproductive Environmental Health Scholarsand Responsible Report Back of Environmental and non-Genomic Research Results. Most recently, he became a project scientist for the NIH Common Fund’sTransformative Research to Address Health Disparities and Advance Health Equityprogram. O’Fallon co-leads the NIEHS Environmental Justice & Environmental Health Disparities Faculty and is an active member of the US Department of Health and Human Services Environmental Justice Working Group.
O'Fallon received his master’s degree in Latin American Studies, from Tulane University in 1997. He specialized in medical anthropology and international health with a focus on cultural perceptions of health and well-being. He applied this knowledge at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (1997-1999), where he coordinated an interagency, binational working group addressing environmental health issues along the U.S.-Mexico Border.
