The NIEHS receives its funding through an annual Congressional appropriation.Each year， congressional subcommittees conduct hearings on the accomplishments and needs of the NIEHS before its budget request is approved by Congress.The NIEHS director provides written statements and testimony at these hearings when requested.The NIEHS budget supports extensive extramural rearch，including the Basic， and adynamic intramural research program including clinical research in the effects of the environment on disease.In addition，NIEHS funds education and training opportunities to foster the development of the next generation of environmental scientists.Text of the NIEHS and Superfund Congressional Justifications and Director’s Statements are available through the links below grouped by federal fiscal year（October1-September30）。
