Can we identify the problem rice by ourselves

Food safety incidents have emerged in an endless stream. There are many small methods and common sense on the Internet to try to teach us consumers how to distinguish between good food and bad food. As we say, "food should be filled in the bowl" and "food should be guaranteed by ourselves", such as first sight, second smell, third touch, and fourth taste, they are mainly identified from the senses. Let's talk about the recent rice incidents. Let's see if we can use these small experiences to identify these problematic rice.

   1. Cadmium rice

Cadmium is a heavy metal that is not necessary for human body. After the environment is polluted, it enters the human body through the food chain, forms cadmium thioprotein in the body, and selectively accumulates in the liver and kidney. Among them, the kidney can absorb nearly 1/3 of cadmium into the body, which is the "target organ" of cadmium poisoning, causing chronic poisoning, and the patient has diabetes, proteinuria and amino acid urine. It will block bone metabolism, causing osteoporosis , atrophy

A series of symptoms such as deformation. The national standard GB 2762 and the European standard (EC) No 629/2008 both require that the limit in rice should be ≤ 0.2 mg/kg. With such milligram level content, there is no sensory phenomenon of rice that can be followed by consumers.

   2. GM rice

A set of "naked eye preliminary identification methods", which are popular among the people, are based on the fact that genetically modified rice has a short growth cycle=can not effectively absorb starch=has little starch content, so the rice washing water will be light in color and will not produce rice worms without nutrition. At present, the main transgenic component of transgenic rice is also Bt63. Bt63 is a patented transgenic insect resistant rice developed by the School of Life Science and Technology of Huazhong Agricultural University, and has not yet obtained a commercial planting license. The Bt63 gene has high resistance to eight kinds of rice lepidopteran pests, such as the Chilo suppressalis, the Chilo suppressalis, the Big Borer, the Rice Leaf Roller, and the Rice Green Worm. The reason why the Bt63 gene can kill insects is that it can enable the transgenic strains to synthesize an endotoxic protein that is toxic to insects, but will not affect the length of the growth cycle, It is not reliable to identify transgenic rice.

  3. Aged rice

How to identify aged rice? Experts can differentiate new and old rice by belly white, hardness, yellow grain, moisture aroma, etc. At the same time, the industry pointed out that "blended rice" is very common in trade grain (grain and oil wholesale), and enterprises entering supermarkets have a certain scale. In order to do a good brand, they will pay more attention to consumer feelings, but 10 kg of new rice mixed with 8 kg of old rice can be eaten, and three or four kg of old rice may not be found, Bulk rice has almost no new rice. The grading standard of rice in the national standard is "not by variety, new or old, but by roughness, imperfect grains and impurities." In the absence of relevant standards, in front of supermarkets and markets with a variety of old rice and blended rice, try to find rice with a small proportion of blended old rice, rather than new rice, It is the choice we consumers can make!

The most reliable way to eat reassuring rice is not to rely on sensory identification, but through professional testing. In addition to the media exposure, other heavy metal content, pesticide residues, illegal additives and other information in rice are also difficult for consumers to learn, and sometimes even be deliberately covered up by bad enterprises. Although the solution to the food safety problem fundamentally depends on "production" rather than "detection", the control of planting and production links mainly depends on government supervision and self-discipline of growers and processing enterprises. It is far from enough to rely on the regulatory power of relevant national departments for food safety. The state actively builds a platform for social co governance. Only social co governance can jointly safeguard the "security on the tip of the tongue".
